Poached meat may not be safe to eat

The BC Conservation Officer Service says the meat from an elk, poached near Youbou, might not be safe to eat.
Peter Pauwels says a week ago Conservation Officers tranquilized a bull elk who had been wandering around the area with mesh and clothesline wrapped in its antlers to disentangle it….
Pauwels says they don’t know if the meat from the tranquilized animal can be consumed safely.
All of the animals were harvested illegally and their heads were removed, so Pauwels says Officers, who put a tag in the ear on the tranquilized bull, have no way of knowing whether or not it was one of the three.
