Development in Riparian Areas Banned in BC

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is reminding residents that developments on land close to streams, lakes and other watercourses are not allowed in BC.
Bylaw Enforcement and Building Inspection Manager Rob Blackmore says the regional district regularly receives complaints about unauthorized developments in sensitive areas.
Blackmore says developing in these sensitive areas can have a huge negative impact.
He says they will pursue enforcement when violation occurs. Just recently, an illegal gazebo was removed from the Cowichan Lake shoreline under these rules.
Mayor Jon Lefebure said in a statement, “Enforcement staff from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Ministry of Environment and Forest Lands, Natural Resource Operations and CVRD worked together to have this structure removed and the bylaw enforced.”
