Mother and son spend a couple hours lost in Goldstream Provincial Park

A mother and son, who got lost after wandering off the trails in Goldstream Park, used a deactivated cell phone to call for help.
West Shore RCMP say they got a call late in the afternoon on Sunday from a 15 year old boy who said that he and his mother were lost in Goldstream Park.

The pair told the 9-1-1 operator they had no supplies, no food or water, that they were wearing flip flops and had no experience as hikers.

Police say to add to their misfortune, the cellphone they were carrying had no service plan and could not make phone calls.
However, deactivated cellphones can still call 9-1-1 and that’s what the pair did.
A Search and Rescue team were able to find them within a couple hours using GPS coordinates from the cellphone.
