Local RCMP Partner with Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association

Some local RCMP officers ditched their duty belts and uniforms to participate in Horse Handling training at Providence Farm.
North Cowichan Duncan RCMP partnered with Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association to learn the tools required to be an onsite volunteer horse handler at their facility.
Sgt Chris Swain who has been volunteering with the association for years is hopeful it could become a great partnership. He says officers can come back to volunteer, while the horses return the favour by providing an avenue for stress relief and therapy.
Jennifer Barnes van Elk with CTRA says volunteers are important members of therapy teams, and she is excited to welcome RCMP members to the organization.
The Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association provides a equestrian programming and therapy to persons with special needs in our community. Volunteers are always welcome.
