North Cowichan Council voted in favour of holding a referendum on an amalgamation next Spring.
Mayor Jon Lefebure was opposed to the motion, saying he agreed with the citizens’ assembly to host the vote at the municipal election in October.
Councillor Joyce Behnsen voted in support of the motion.
She says she is supportive of the spring vote for many reasons.
Councillors Marsh, Douglas and Mayor Lefebure voted against the motion, but it still passed with votes from Councillors Behnsen, Maguire, Seibring and Walker.
The decision from City of Duncan was recently deferred to their August meeting.
