UPDATED 9:45 pm: Wildfire burning north of Ladysmith

UPDATE:

In Cedar, 12 homes in the area of Cedar Rd, Yellowpoint Road and Adshead road have been evacuated. The North Oyster VFD says that fire has now grown to 2o hectares. It was apparently sparked by hay mowing equipment.

The Town of Ladysmith has activated its Emergency Operations Centre to provide support and assistance as required.

ORIGINAL STORY:  There’s a wildfire burning north of Ladysmith near the intersection of Cedar Rd and Hill Rd.

It’s reported to be 4 hectares in size.

Cedar, Cranberry, North Oyster and Ladysmith fire crews are responding.

The Coastal Fire Center has sent an initial attack crew and air tankers to tackle the blaze.

Some homes along the west side of Cedar Road between Yellow Point and Adshead Road are being evacuated.
