Library workers get tentative contract

CUPE 401 members, who work for the Vancouver Island Regional Library, will be voting on a tentative agreement next weekend.
After a long bargaining process the two sides struck a tentative deal late last week.
Members had voted overwhelmingly to take job action if necessary to support their bargaining committee.
One of the hold ups in the negotiations, according to the union was scheduling that created problems with the work-life balance and family time for members.
The 2 hundred CUPE members work as library assistants, circulation supervisors, office workers, IT, and drivers at 39 library branches in 37 communities throughout Vancouver Island, Haida Gwaii, the Central Coast, and some northern Gulf Islands.
