Hogweed a Cowichan Valley problem plant

There are a variety of methods that can be used to prevent the spread of invasive plants but one of the best is to prevent the spread of them in the first place.
In the Cowichan Valley, Rachelle McElroy with the Coastal Invasive Species committee for our region says the CVRD recently passed a noxious weed bylaw to help with the control of giant hogweed…..
In both Nanaimo and on the Sunshine Coast the problem weed is knotweed…..
McElroy says, in Canada, nurseries are not prevented from selling plants considered invasive species and the butterfly bush is a plant sold in retail settings.
Gardeners are encouraged to make a different choice.
