The Vancouver Island and Coast Conservation Society are asking community leaders to help establish a Vancouver Island Rivers Foundation.
President Laurie Gourlay says such a Foundation could see to it some important river systems on the Island are designated as heritage rivers……
Gourlay says early next month community leaders will gather for the annual Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities conference and his organization has sent a letter to the Association asking for their support.
The province, he says, politely refused the request last fall.
