Shawnigan Lake Community Faces Another Setback
The BC Court of Appeal dismissed the Cowichan Valley Regional District’s application to discharge or vary the order that allows operators to continue dumping at the contaminated soil landfill facility in Shawnigan Lake. CVRD Director for Shawnigan Lake Sonia Furstenau says the community will not let this setback deter them from continuing to fight for their water.
Operators are continuing to dump contaminated soil into the facility, after they were granted a limited stay of the orders, allowing them to honour existing contracts before March 21. The main hearing will go the week of August 15th.
