Fire Destroys A Historic Duncan Landmark

Fire Investigators are working to find the cause of a fire that destroyed a heritage building in Duncan on Friday night.
The Quamichan Inn is considered a historical landmark, starting as a Tudor-style home 100 years ago in the Cowichan Valley and in more recent years, operating as a restaurant, lounge and bed and breakfast.
Maple Bay Fire Chief Mike Dunn says crews from the Maple Bay Hall and South End Hall responded to the call around 11:20pm that night.
There were people in the building when the fire started, but everyone was able to exit safely without injury or incident.
Forty firefighters worked for close to four hours to extinguish the blaze, but the building is considered a total loss.
