Province warns of drought

Residents on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands are being urged to conserve water.
The province says the areas of particular concern include southern Vancouver Island, south of Tofino on the west coast and south of Campbell River on the east coast, and the Gulf Islands.
Jon Lefebure wears several hats in the Cowichan Valley including co-chair of Cowichan Watershed Board.
He says the central water supply system for the Duncan core, for example is strong but everyone can play a part in reducing their water use.
Lefebure says the biggest concern is lakes and rivers, like the Cowichan….
The province says much of Vancouver Island is looking at level 3 drought conditions which call for voluntary water use reductions of 30 per cent from all users, except those supported by storage or groundwater.
