Malahat Reopened After Serious Collision

UPDATE

One woman is being treat for life threatening injuries after a head-on collision on the Malahat Highway, south of Mill Bay around 8am this morning.

RCMP say a southbound pick up truck lost control on the highway and slid into an oncoming traffic causing the collision with another pick up.

The sole occupants of both vehicles were taken to hospital. One man is being treat for non-life threatening injuries, and a woman faces more serious injuries.

The highway was shut down in both directions for several hours, before reopening around noon.

Police asked motorists to drive with caution as roads were slippery.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The Malahat is expected to be closed in both directions for several hours following a serious crash this morning just south of Mill Bay. Witnesses say the accident happened around 8am.

Northbound traffic is being detoured through Shawnigan Lake Road, and southbound vehicles will be directed through Shawnigan Lake-Mill Bay Road.

Foggy conditions may have been a factor in the collision.
