Duncan residents need to clean up their recycling

Residents of Duncan have to clean up their recycling or the City will be facing a big bill.
Lucas Pitts, Duncan’s director of public works and development services says the City has the worst contamination rate on the Island when it comes to curbside recycling.
Pitts says there’s 15 per cent contamination, that is, items that don’t belong in the recycling….
Pitts says items that should not be in the recycling include stryrofoam, plastic films, plastic toys, plastic bags, and glass.
If Duncan doesn’t clean up its act, MMBC could impose penalties of up to 120,000 dollars per year and force the City to bring its recycling to Nanaimo rather than the, much closer, Bings Creek facility.
