Coroner investigating double drowning

The BC Coroners Service is investigating after two young men drowned at Weston Lake on Salt Spring Island.

One of the two men was pulled from the water Tuesday evening by civilians who were doing CPR when emergency crews arrived.

Salt Spring’s fire rescue boat found the second man about 16 metres from shore a short time later.

According to the coroner, three men, all from out of town, had gone swimming in the lake when the incident happened.

The coroner will try to determine how familiar the men were with the body of water, their swimming ability and whether or not alcohol or drugs were involved.

The men were from out of town, but their hometowns are not yet known.

No names have been released.
