An Island Health Respirologist says parents, of children with asthma, should take some proactive steps because September is the peak month for asthma hospital admissions.
Dr. John Reid says parents should ensure prescriptions for children are filled and children should get back into the routine of using their inhaled asthma controller medication regularly.
He says parents should develop an Asthma Action Plan, that is a strategy to manage s child’s asthma when it flares, and share the plan with their school.
On average, the hospitalization rate for school-aged children with asthma, peaks 17 point 7 days after Labour Day.
