IT projects can be risky

The province’s auditor general says BC’s information technology projects need to be developed with input from people who actually use them.

Carol Bellringer says that would help ensure they don’t fail.

Bellringer says, in her report on I-T projects, they are often risky and only 29 per cent of the time they succeed….
In 2014-15 the province spent 668 million dollars developing new I-T systems and enhancing existing systems.
Those systems include the electronic health record system used at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
That system is currently under review following complaints by physicians that patients safety was being compromised.
