Municipality considers tree bylaw

North Cowichan Council Chambers were filled with tree supporters at their last meeting, as a volunteer spoke in favour of introducing a tree and site protection bylaw to the municipality.

Kathryn Swan is a retired teacher, and a member of the Cowichan Naturalist Society, and has been working with a group to come up with a plan to protect and identify significant and heritage trees.

The urban and rural forest coordinator will have a seat on the committee, and the committee will contribute to creating the bylaw.

Council referred the presentation to staff who are currently working on their own report for protecting local trees.
