Third weather system not as devastating as predicted

The hardest hit areas of the most recent storm system were Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the Sunshine Coast.

That’s according to the Weather Network.

For the most part BC Hydro has restored power to the majority of households on Vancouver Island.

There are still a couple of pockets where the power is out in Duncan and in Nanaimo, but Hydro crews are working on it.

Environment Canada has cancelled all the weather advisories.

According to Environment Canada, between 5 and 7 the wind was gusting between 80 and 97 kilometers an hour in Gibsons last night.

In Nanaimo, around 7 last night, the wind was gusting to 59 kilometers per hour.

No measurements are available for our region.

Environment Canada says the storm actually made landfall near Bamfield around 7 last night and from there moved northeast to just south of Port Alberni before crossing over to the Sunshine Coast.

The rain was heavy, at times, but amounts vary.
