Two Teens Struck By Vehicle in Nanaimo Crosswalk

Two teens were stuck by a vehicle on Friday while trying to cross the Island Highway at Mostar Road in Nanaimo.
RCMP, Ambulance and Fire crews responded to the accident around 10:30 on Friday night. The 56 year old male driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Police believe the injured 15 year old girl and 17 year old boy, along with two others trying to cross against the red light. The driver was going through the intersection when the two were struck.
The 15 year old girl was airlifted to Victoria General Hospital, while the 17 year old was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.
Drugs and alcohol were ruled out as factors. The roads were wet and slippery at the time.
Both students were foreign exchange students in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District.
