A family had their evening of Trick or Treating ruined when they, and several bystanders, were hit with a blast of bear spray.
Police say around 8 Monday night they were called to a report of a man driving too fast in a central Nanaimo area.
Parents had yelled at the driver to slow down.
During an exchange with the driver, a man had allegedly struck the passing vehicle with a flashlight causing some damage.
The driver stopped, demanded to know who hit his vehicle and then grabbed a can of bear spray and sprayed not only the man who hit his vehicle but also his wife and 7 year son.
Other parents, who came to help, were also contaminated by the affects of the spray.
The suspect driver got back into his vehicle and drove off but not before witnesses managed to get the license plate number of the vehicle.
