Port Alberni man dies in fatality south of Duncan

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed a fatal accident just before 8 o’clock yesterday (Sun) morning at Bench Road and the TransCanada Highway to come forward.

Mounties say a northbound vehicle struck a light standard at the intersection.

Three occupants were trapped in the vehicle.

A man, who had been in the front passenger seat was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man who was driving the vehicle was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

A woman, who had been a passenger in the rear seat, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

RCMP say all three are believed to be in their early 20’s, and from the Port Alberni Area.

The northbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours yesterday (Sun) while police and the Coroner investigated.

So far, it appears fatigue may have been a contributing factor in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.
