Invasive weed spreads

Volunteers are needed today to help remove Scotch Broom from the Somenos Garry Oak Protected Area.

Scotch Broom is a foreign, invasive, plant species that is best known for its colourful yellow flower.

The plant is quickly spreading up and down the Island and is threatening local plant species.

Today’s effort is coordinated by the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

Volunteers are asked to arrive at York Road off of Trillium Terrace (accessed from Lakes Road) at 9:00 a.m.
