A local tax practitioner says they have received over 15 phone calls in the past week from clients who say they’ve been targeted over the phone for a tax scam.
Owner of the Cowichan Valley H&R Block says the office has been busy reassuring clients.
Mede says the calls being reported are all very similar.
He reminds the community that the CRA does not demand payment of taxes over the phone, and will never request payments in the form of gift cards or money orders. Report any suspicious phone calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
