Shawnigan Lake By-Election and Advanced Polls

The Shawnigan Lake by-election goes on Saturday at the local community centre and at Easter Seals Camp Shawnigan.
Sierra Acton was Sonia Fursteneau’s alternate before Fursteneau won a seat as a Green Party M.L.A. in the last provincial election.
Chief Elections Officer, Kathleen Harrison says the number of voters on the advanced voting days was below average, as less than two hundred people exercised their democratic right.
Upon winning a seat as a Green M.L.A. in the last provincial election, Sonia Fursteneau relinquished her spot as Director of Shawnigan Lake at the Cowichan Valley Regional District board.
Acton, her alternate, along with Larry Jorginson and Bill Savage are looking to win the by-election and Chief Elections Officer, Kathleen Harrison says there are over six thousand potential voters in the Shawnigan Lake area.
There are also more than 70 non-resident property electors in the area.
The Shawnigan Lake by-election goes on Saturday, the polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The All-Candidate meeting is set for seven Thursday night at the Shawnigan Lake School.
