Environment Canada numbers show that the City of Nanaimo just had the driest summer in 50 years.
The drought conditions were highlighted by a paltry three millimetres of rain in August.
Meteorologist, Alyssa Charbonneau says the spring helped lessen the impact of an extremely dry summer.
Charbonneau says the city had only trace amounts of precipitation in the three-month stretch between July and September.
2017 joins 1967, 1951, 1944, and 1919 as the driest summers ever.
Charbonneau says the spring was wet and that helped keep the conditions from being worse.
The weather stations are in Comox and Nanaimo, but Charbonneau says the entire island and the Sunshine Coast experienced bone-dry conditions.
