Saltair adopts smoke control bylaw

A portion of Electoral Area G, which is Saltair and Thetis, has adopted the Cowichan Valley Regional District’s smoke control bylaw.
Tauseef Waraich, Manager of Recycling and Waste Management says the the bylaw is now in effect for the Saltair portion of the Electoral Area….
Wariach says Thetis, which is in Electoral Area G, did not adopt the bylaw at this point.
Wariach says Mill Bay/Malahat, Shawnigan Lake, Cobble Hill, Cowichan Bay and the Cowichan Station/Sahtlam/Glenora areas were already all on board with the bylaw which restricts residential backyard burning to a one-month period during the spring and fall.

Waraich says ultimately similar smoke bylaws could be in place throughout the CVRD…..

The Cowichan Lake/Skutz Falls, North Oyster and Youbou/Meade Creek Electoral areas have not adopted a smoke control bylaw.
