The province has established the Fair Wages Commission.
Labour Minister Harry Bains says the three members of the commission will also be considering and making recommendations around other wage rates under the Employment Standards Regulation….
Bains says the minimum wage in B.C., adjusted for inflation, is barely higher than what it was in the 1980’s.
In the meantime, he says, the productivity of workers has increased considerably.
Professor and economist Marjorie Griffin Cohen will oversee the work of the commission as chair, with vice-president of the B.C. Business Council Ken Peacock and union leader Ivan Limpright as members.
The Commission is due to report back to him within 90 days following a public and stakeholder consultation period.
