Those lanes, that the Ministry of Transporation and Infrastructure had been opening for the weekend on the Malahat, will now remain closed throughout the weekends.
The plan had been to keep one lane closed in each direction during construction throughout the entire contract, but the ministry altered it due to traffic congestion this summer and opened the closed lanes on weekends.
But the ministry says the traffic on the Malahat has eased up.
Ministry spokesperson, Janelle Irwin says motorists should zipper merge when entering the construction area…..
Irwin says they’ll go back to weekend openings beginning on the May long weekend again in 2018.
The project is expected to be done by the end of next summer.
