Motorists are advised to expect delays for the foreseeable future as crews begin rock drilling and blasting to widen the Malahat between Shawnigan Lake Road north to the summit of the highway.
So says the regional project manager overseeing construction – Darren Englund.
He says the $15-million project is being carried out with one primary goal in mind.
Englund says there will be periodic delays up to 20 minutes outside of peak travel times from Monday to Friday.
He adds, however, crews will not be stopping traffic on Friday afternoons, weekends and the days before or after long weekends.
