At just before 1 p.m. on Saturday, a white Toyota sedan hit a hydro pole and came to rest after hitting a nearby fence.

The incident occurred on Cowichan Lake Road and witnesses say the vehicle had reached speeds of about 80 kilometres an hour before the collision.

The female driver was restrained by both R.C.M.P. officers and paramedics before being handcuffed and taken away in an ambulance.
