Teachers rally in Nanaimo

As many school districts inform parents they don’t have enough staff or information to compile report cards, more than 1-thousand teachers from around the Island turned up at in Nanaimo for a rally calling for a fair deal for BC students.

BC Federation of Labour President Jim Sinclair and the NDP’s Education critic Rob Fleming spoke to the crowd, along with BCTF President Jim Iker.

Iker says the roots of the current strike go back more than a decade…

Iker says the BCTF will keep pushing to reduce class sizes and close the funding gap with other provinces, which he says are the real issues in the contract dispute, not wages.
