According to a report, about 50 per cent of the Aboriginal chiefs and councilors in the Cowichan Valley allegedly didn’t file their salaries with the federal government.

Leaders of the Cowichan Tribes and Halalt First Nation didn’t meet a deadline to file on July 29th – this according to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

The CTF says under the 2013 law called the First Nations Financial Transparency Act all bands are required to post online their audited financial statements for the last fiscal year.
