North Cow/Duncan RCMP using new unit

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP say they has been utilizing a new unit since June.

Police say a temporary nine member crime reduction unit has been hitting the streets during the summer.

They add these officers have been temporarily taken from their regular duties to assist the front line policing efforts to reduce crime.

Police say the duties of this unit includes: conducting bike and foot patrols in problem areas, locating people with outstanding warrants, curfew checks, licensed premise checks, surveillance and targeted enforcement on persons or properties of interest, and increasing the visibility of the police in the community.

They add members of the unit have been approached by citizens stating their appreciation for the increased enforcement.
