Area teachers back from BCTF meetings, ready to hit picket lines

The BC Teachers Federation is talking tough and vowing to ramp up the pressure on the government after wrapping up their annual summer meeting in Kamloops.

The president of the Cowichan District Teachers’ Association is Naomi Nillson. Sun FM caught up with her on the way back from the meeting.

Mike Ball is president of the Teachers Association for the Nanaimo Ladysmith District. He says there haven’t been any contract talks between the BCTF and the government to end the strike and lock-out.  He blames the government.

On Monday a petition with 11,000 signatures from concerned parents was delivered to the Legislature in Victoria calling on the government to get serious about reaching a deal with teachers.
