New degree program adding to back-to-campus buzz at VIU Cowichan

Vancouver Island University has an extra cause for excitement at the start of the new school year.

The Cowichan Campus is offering its first degree program; a Bachelor of Eduction, something only offered before at the Nanaimo campus.

Academic Administrator, Warren Weir, says he thinks the students will enjoy the small campus atmosphere, and for those who already live in the Valley it’s going to be a lot less expensive than commuting up-Island.

He says having a full degree program is pretty exciting on it’s own, but it’s also going to have a ripple effect.

The eduction program has proven popular, with 29 students enrolled. VIU says, overall, enrollment is up this year at both Cowichan and Nanaimo.
