Balme Ayr Farm's gravel pit project front, centre at public meeting

Balme Ayr Farm’s permit for a gravel pit development project south of Duncan is still being reviewed by the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
The owner of the farm, Shelly Balme, says she stated her case for a permit at a public meeting last night in Cobble Hill.
She says there is a lot of misinformation out there about the project and wanted to take the opportunity to make people aware what is true and what isn’t.
The project has already gotten the green light from the Agricultural Land Commission and the next step is the mine permit.
The CVRD has already rejected the gravel processing proposal after a legal opinion that basically told the Board it can’t issue temporary use permits on farmland.
That is according to the Districts own Official Community Plan.
