Thousands are still without power in the Cowichan Valley/Malahat region after what BC Hydro is calling the worst hit to their grid so far this storm season.

And one point during Thursday’s wind storm more than 30 thousand customers from Nanaimo south were out of power.

That number is down considerably by Friday morning, but crews still have a lot of work ahead of them. Especially getting to those isolated outages affecting just a handful of customers.

Karla Louwers of BC Hydro says they did a lot of work overnight, and a full compliment of repair crews hit the road just after 8 Friday morning.

Louwers says it’s a little tough to give accurate restoration times right now… but Hydro is aiming to have power back for most everybody by 6 this evening.
