There were no immediate reports of damage and no tsunami expected. The tremor was felt in Campbell River, Comox and as far south as Nanoose Bay.

Tofino Mayor Josie Osborne says it’s the strongest quake she’s felt in recent memory.

Osborne says it’s another reminder about the importance of being prepared for an earthquake.

Seismologists have described the numerous small quakes off Vancouver Island’s coast in the last few weeks as an “earthquake swam”.
