Years of debate, study and delay could finally be over for people who want to see North Cowichan push a road through to Stoney Hill.
Concerns have been raised about environmental impact, and disturbance of Cowichan Tribes archeological sites. There was also a last minute issue with BC Hydro.
Mayor John Lefebure says there was a sense of relief for many when Council voted to OK a 2.7 million dollar construction contract.
Work is set to start soon.
Meanwhile, the municipality and the Cowichan Tribes have set up a plan for ongoing monitoring of the project .
