Ladysmith man badly hurt after getting hit by car while hitchhiking near Malahat Summit

A 32-year-old Ladysmith man has been hospitalized with serious injuries after police believe he was hit by a car while he was hitchhiking on the Trans-Canada highway close to the Malahat Summit.
Shawnigan Lake RCMP found the man on Saturday night accompanied by several drivers who stopped on the side of the road to help him out.
Police say the car that hit the man did not stop and they have yet to find any witnesses that may have seen the accident.
The RCMP South Island Traffic Services have assumed a lead role in this ongoing investigation, with the assistance of Shawnigan Lake RCMP.
