North Cowichan hits major climate action milestone

The Municipality of North Cowichan is calling it a “significant achievement” that puts them in some pretty exclusive company.

Work on North Cowichan’s Climate Action & Energy Plan has hit the benchmark known as “milestone four” under the Partners for Climate Protection program.  The program includes 270 local governments across the country.

Brigid Reynolds is North Cowichan’s Senior Planner for Environment and Policy.

North Cowichan’s plan aims for a 33 per cent reduction of greenhouse gases by 2025 and an 80 per cent reduction by 2050.

So far only 24 other jurisdictions in the Partners for Climate Protection program have reached “milestone four”.
