Crowder glad to hear ministers will attend roundtable on missing and murdered aboriginal women

Nanaimo-Cowichan MP Jean Crowder says she’s glad cabinet ministers Bernard Valcourt and Kellie Leitch will be at a national roundtable on Canada’s missing and murdered aboriginal women.

Crowder, the NDP’s Aboriginal Affairs Critic, says the fact the ministers of Aboriginal Affairs and Status of Women have agreed to go means the Conservatives are starting to heed public outcry for an inquiry.

But Crowder says she’s not optimistic the Conservatives will actually launch one.

Crowder says she’d like to attend the roundtable as well, but she hasn’t been invited. She says along with an inquiry, the government needs a national action plan to prevent aboriginal women being victimized.
