North Cowichan budget debates continue, with taxes in the spotlight

The Municipality of North Cowichan’s budget and the impact it has on taxes will be front and centre at a special council meeting on Thursday

Councilor Al Siebring says a motion to bump up taxes for the industrial sector will be up for debate.

He says he proposed the idea at the last council meeting as a means to help take the pressure of homeowners.

Siebring says he also wants a hard cap for hiking residential property taxes in the next four years. He says he is concerned a lot of seniors would have to defer their taxes if increases are unpredictable.
