Speed trap nabs marijuana load

RCMP working a speed trap on Chemainus Road ended up with more than they were expecting recently, when one of the drivers they pulled over turned to be carrying a lot of marijuana

Officers spotted a Toyota sport utility heading a little too quickly, and after they stopped it a search turned up the marijuana – stuffed into garbage bags – as well as thousands of dollars in cash.

The driver, a 32 year old Edmonton man, now faces drug charges.

The truck was also seized.

The man is due in Duncan Provincial Court in June.

Sergeant Chris Swain says, “Traffic safety and aggressive driving remain a policing priority of our communities, as does drug enforcement. Due to the actions of this individual, several policing priorities were served at once.”
