CVRD Board wants province to hike corporation taxes to help local government

North Cowichan Council didn’t want a large tax increase for industrial properties but it might happen anyways, albeit much smaller, if the Cowichan Valley Regional District has its way.

The CVRD Board is looking into asking the province to increase taxes for big corporations by one per cent, which would in turn, go back into local government.

Jon Lefebure is the mayor of North Cowichan and the chair of the CVRD.

Lefebure says the motion will be passed along to the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities and Union of British Columbia Municipalities. He adds, however, the province does not have to follow through with any suggestions.
