The Islands Trust Fund has finished mapping all the eelgrass beds around islands in the Salish Sea.
Kate Emmings is the group’s Ecosystem Protection Specialist.
She says they’ve made the eelgrass map available online so anyone can check it out.
She says they learned a lot over the course of the 2-year mapping project.
Emmings says eelgrass is important habitat for young fish, and some larger creatures rely on it when seeking shelter or foraging for food.
