Municipal election expense reports released

Elections BC has released the expense reports from last fall’s municipal election.

And, it seems to cost a lot more to run for mayor in North Cowichan than it does in Duncan.

By almost any standard across the province the campaigns of Mayor Phil Kent and challenger Peter Gordon were frugal.

Gordon reports expenses of 250 dollars. Kent; just over 760. All from his own pocket.

There was a little more spending among the 14 people vying for Council seats, with 1 candidate at more than $3-thousand, four between $2 and $3-thousand, and four between $1 and $2-thousand.

In North Cowichan; John Lefebure’s successful re-election bid came in just shy of 22-thousand dollars. John Koury, who’s now set his sights on federal politics, claimed campaign expenses of just over 24-thousand 300. Damir Wallener says his campaign cost around 85-hundred.

All three were the largest single contributors to their own campaign war chests.

You can see the spending reports for any candidate, in any race (including school board), at Elections BC.
