Bluebirds seem to be sticking around for winter – to the delight of conservationists

A local conservation group has been looking to re-establish Western Bluebirds on Vancouver Island for three years, and now they’re seeing the fruits of their labour.

Jemma Green is a coordinator with the Garry Oak Ecosystems Recovery Team.

Green says a flock of the Bluebirds was recently spotted on Mt. Tzouhalem.

She says that is a good sign for population growth because birds that over-winter are healthier, and more likely to breed successfully in the spring.
