TSB report on North Island float plane crash points to pilot knowledge of aircraft modifications

The Transportation Safety Board says a pilot involved in a fatal 2013 float plane crash off the North Island may not have been aware of the effect of modifications on his plane.

3 people died when the Air Cab Cessna went down on West Cracroft Island on a charter flight from Port McNeill.

TSB investigators found there had been several modifications to the plane, all approved by Transport Canada, but there was no record of how those changes affected the plane’s handling and performance.

That meant the pilot may not have had a proper sense of how the aircraft would perform in various situations.

The TSB’s full report is here.
